"Tud" Kent Race

The "Tud" Kent 100 Mile Race race begins in Ashton and heads east for 25 miles to the southwestern corner of Yellowstone, then returns. The route is repeated the 2nd day for a total of 100 miles.

"Tud" Kent was one of the the 4 founding committee members of the American Dog Derby.  He was a seasoned musher who regularly ran dogs to Railroad Ranch (now Island Park) and all over the timber country.  The first race, in 1917, was a 55 mile course from West Yellowstone to Ashton through deep snow and a raging blizzard.  "Tud" won that race and 5 other races over the next 10 years.  Though these later races were shorter, about 25 miles long, they were often during blizzards.  It is fitting that the most arduous race, the 100 miler, is named after "Tud".
