American Dog DerbyRay Gordon Race

Like all other races, the Ray Gordon 60 miler starts in Ashton and follows the same route as the 100 mile race. The turn around on this race is located on the edge of the Targhee National Forest.

Ray Gordon, who currently lives in Rock Springs, Wyoming, is known as the "Grand Old Master" in the longer range events.  In Ashton he won the 100 mile race in 1995 with 10 dogs.  He then won the 80 mile race with 6 dogs in 1997, 1999, and 2000.  In 2003 he won the 80 mile race again, this time with 8 dogs.  That made his 5th win, which no one else in recent years has come close to equating.  He has also run in the Iditarod - twice.  The 60 mile race is now the Ray Gordon Race.
